When you think of maple and cheese, there is no doubt that you immediately think of Vermont! So it’s no surprise that when the Culture Magazine – The Word on Cheese decided to do an article on pairing maple and cheeses, they asked Lisa Battilana, the cheese program director at Woodstock Farmers’ Market, Woodstock, Vermont to create a cheese board with maple products.
A number of her choices are Vermont products, and boy, with all the sweets it features (biscuits, truffles, cinnamon and of course maple), her cheese board is almost more of a dessert tray than a cheese plate! But why not? It is such a nice way for us to discover some new Vermont cheeses. So, to stay local, we’ve kept here her 3 “all-Vermont” selections:
- Maple Chevre, from Blue Ledge Farm paired with Jan’s Cranberry-Pistachio Farmhouse Chips,
- Grappino, from Spoonwood Cabin Creamery paired with Grafton Village Bakery’s Maple Oat Biscuit Bites,
- Beatrix Brie Button, from Blythedale Farm paired with Sidehill Farm’s Mapple Apple Drizzle.
As we travel the gorgeous hills of Vermont this summer, we’ll definitely need to try those intriguing pairings!
